Munich Airport (MUC) is once again embracing the festive season as its popular Christmas and winter market opens at the Munich Airport Center. Marking its 25th edition, the market invites passengers, airport staff, and local residents to enjoy a warm and welcoming celebration throughout the busy winter travel period.
The heart of the market is a decorated pine forest surrounded by around 40 wooden stalls offering handmade gifts, regional food, and traditional winter treats. Visitors can enjoy the scent of mulled wine, roasted almonds, and Bavarian specialities while exploring the festive setting.
A major attraction is the 600 square metre ice rink, available for skating and curling sessions which can be booked online. The market also hosts a varied programme of family friendly activities including Advent wreath making, bauble decorating, ceramic painting, children’s face painting, magic shows, and soap bubble performances. Santa Claus will make special appearances on 27 November, 6 December, and 19 December with gifts for younger visitors.
A new feature this year is the Wish Tree initiative on 6 and 7 December. Visitors can select a wish note from the tree, purchase the corresponding gift, and return it to the Elk Hut by 18 December. All donated gifts will support children from charitable organisations.
Evenings at the market feature live performances from regional musicians covering rock, pop, funk, Italian classics, swing, Latin, gospel, and modern folk. For those who want to experience the airport’s festive lighting after dark, 50 minute Christmas light tours can be booked online. The tours start at the dedicated hut located beside the market.
The winter market is open daily from 11 am to 9 pm, closing at 4 pm on Christmas Eve. Entry is free, with one hour of free parking and discounted rates for up to three hours. Further information and booking options are available at the Munich Airport Christmas market website.
