Emirates has unveiled the first nine routes where it will deploy its incoming Airbus A350-900 aircraft, including the first aircraft that has been spotted, registered as A6-EXA. In total, the airline plans to operate nine routes with the type initially.
Introduction in September
According to the airline’s announcement, the first Airbus A350-900 service will be between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Bahrain International Airport (BAH), currently served by either the Boeing 777-200LR or Boeing 777-300ER.

The Airbus A350-900 will take over flying on the daily EK839 itinerary, including the return flight EK840 on September 15, 2024. Both are currently flown with either of the two aforementioned 777 types, according to data by Flightradar24.
Meanwhile, data from the aviation analytics company Cirium showed that the Boeing 777s operating the EK839/EK840 flights in September are configured with either 302 (777-200LR) or 428 (777-300ER) seats.

Eight other Emirates Airbus A350-900 destinations
By November 1, the Airbus A350-900 should fly between DXB and BAH twice daily. Cirium data showed that Emirates operates a total of 22 flights from DXB to BAH, in addition to 49 services by Gulf Air and 31 flights by flydubai in November. As a result, the route has 20,934 weekly seats, resulting in 10.2 million weekly available seat kilometers (ASK) on the route.
On September 16, the DXB-based carrier should deploy the A350-900 on the DXB to Kuwait International Airport (KWI) route, with another destination, Muscat International Airport (MCT), being served by the type from December 1.

The Airbus A350-900 will fly beyond the Middle East/Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, including Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM) and Ahmedabad International Airport (AMD) services starting on October 27. The type will enter services between DXB and Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) on January 1, 2025.
Lastly, services from DXB to Lyon Saint Exupery Airport (LYS) and Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) will switch to the Airbus A350-900 starting October 27, while Emirates plans to return to Edinburgh Airport (EDI) on November 4. Game changer in its fleet
Adnan Kazim, the Deputy President and chief commercial officer (CCO) of Emirates, said that the Airbus A350 will be a game-changer for Emirates, adding that the type will enable the airline to operate routes with superior operating efficiency and flexibility.

The airline will configure its first ten Airbus A350-900 aircraft with 32 business class, 21 premium economy, and 259 economy class seats, meaning that it will not have a first class product onboard. Similarly, Emirates’ Boeing 777-200LRs have 302 seats without a first class cabin.

Nevertheless, the ten Airbus A350-900 aircraft should arrive by March 31, 2025, with the twin-aisle jets equipped with Emirates’ latest cabin upgrades, adding more premium cabin options, according to Kazim. In total, the airline has 65 A350-900 aircraft on order.
