easyJet Owner Eyes Court Case Against Owner Of A Jet Wash Cleaning Company

easyGroup, the owners of British low-cost carrier easyJet, have sued a pressure washing company in the United Kingdom, alleging that the company has infringed its easyJet trademark, according to a statement shared by the defendant. The company’s owner has also launched a fundraising campaign.

According to the UK-based company Easy Jetwash, easyGroup, the parent company of the low-cost carrier easyJet, has been threatened by the latter, demanding the shutdown of the former’s business completely. The UK-based pressure-washing company made its allegations on the GoFundMe page that the owner of the business launched shortly after easyGroup began legal proceedings. The page read that the owner runs a small business called Easy Jetwash, stating that the name hails from the fact that they were able to make hard work easy.

“I even trademark my business in the early stage as a self employed individual. The trademark idea was mainly to see if the name of the business or the logo would create any legal problems. It got accepted and I was happy. Been working [for] years without any problems.”

However, the easyGroup sent a letter to the owner, demanding that they would shut down their pressure-washing business because it was infringing their business and causing damages to the group. The owner of Easy Jetwash argued that the easyGroup is not involved in any pressure-washing ventures or any other activities that the former is involved in.

Not associated with the airline

When Simple Flying reached out to easyJet, the airline’s spokesperson affirmed that the legal action was not associated with the low-cost carrier since easyGroup is a different company. Nevertheless, the owner of Easy Jetwash reiterated that they attempted to resolve the matter without going to court. So far, the company has raised £270 ($344.87) on its fundraising page.

Meanwhile, easyGroup has a specific page on its website called ‘Brand thieves.’ On it, the group said that some think they can make fast money by stealing its name and its reputation, setting up websites and companies using the name ‘easy’ or phonetic versions of it, which could resemble an easyGroup company.

“Sometimes these people ask us for money, sometimes they just hope consumers will think they are an easyGroup company and will part with their money. If you see a company that you think is disguising itself as an easyGroup company that is trying to piggyback off our brand in any way, then please help us to protect both the consumer and our brand.”

Settling with a band

In October 2023, Easy Life, a UK-based indie band, suffered a similar fate, with easyGroup threatening the collective with legal action if it would not change its name. Eventually, Easy Life became known as ‘hard life’ on social media and music streaming sites, including Spotify.

On March 21, easyGroup issued a statement that the company reached a resolution with the band, with the group changing its name and passing all of the rights of the Easy Life name, as well as the associated domain, to the British conglomerate. easyGroup has acted on other companies that it had considered infringing on its trademark and business.
