Ryanair Launches 4th Moroccan Base And 13 New Routes At Tangier

European carrier Ryanair this week officially launched its fourth base in Morocco, in the city of Tangier. The airline will base a couple of aircraft in the new hub and operate a network of 25 destinations, of which 13 are new destinations, with eight being cities within Europe and the remaining five being domestic destinations within Morocco.

Four hubs are better than three

European ultra-low-cost carrier Ryanair announced the official opening of its fourth hub in Morocco on Tuesday at Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport (TNG), where the airline began operations in May. The airline based two Boeing 737s at the hub and provides connectivity to 25 routes, 13 of which will be new services connecting Tangier to eight new destinations in Europe and five to cities within Morocco itself.

Ryanair joins two Morocco-based carriers in the domestic market.

The airline states that customers will have access to the carrier’s “legendary ultra-low fares” at 11 destinations within the country, which will result in increased connectivity and a boost in passenger traffic within the domestic network.

Airline CEO – Eddie Wilson stated,

“Our latest base opening takes Ryanair’s total investment in Morocco to over US$1.4bn, supporting over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs and delivering growth in the local tourism economy. We look forward to continuing to support Morocco’s economy, as well as regional & international connectivity, by positioning Tangier as a leading Summer destination with its museums, medina, souq and, of course, its beautiful beaches.”

Of the 5,000 new jobs being created, over 600 jobs will be based in Morocco itself, including pilot and crew positions.

Rapid expansion

Despite being a low-cost carrier, Ryanair knows how to enter new markets and stimulate demand, and that is exactly what the airline has been doing. In recent months, the airline has expanded its route network for the upcoming summer travel demand. Most notably, the airline added over a hundred routes within the span of five days earlier this year.

Furthermore, the carrier also recently recorded a record profit of nearly $2 billion, which the airline achieved due to rapid passenger recovery and its strong business operating model of minimizing costs while maximizing revenue streams. Considering these factors, the airline is in a strong position to continue expanding its operations and market presence across Europe and Africa.
