US carrier
is looking to reward its frequent who give back to their local communities by offering up to 5,000 bonus SkyMiles to members of its loyalty program who give to United Way this month. The charity is one of the largest in the US and provides funding to local communities nationwide.
Give, and you shall receive
Delta has been working with the United Way for over 30 years. This latest promotion is one of many run by the airline to benefit United Way, with the
SkyTeamcarrier most recently matching donations to the Atlanta branch of the charity in December.
To give, members can go to the dedicated donation page and enter their SkyMiles number. United Way of Greater Atlanta will process the donations, and the funds will be distributed to each giver’s local community based on their zip codes. The offer is valid through September 30th, with the bonus miles being awarded in the following denominations:
- 1,000 bonus miles for a donation of $50 – $124
- 2,500 bonus miles for a donation of $125 – $299
- 5,000 bonus miles for a donation of $300 or more
The donations will help create positive, lasting change and brighter futures for local communities thanks to the work of the United Way. The United Way seeks to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities and focusing on the building blocks for a good quality of life, education, income, and health. A Delta spokesperson highlighted the carrier’s longstanding partnership with United Way:
“Delta has partnered with United Way for over 30 years, and we are grateful for your decision to invest in tangible quality of life improvements for real people in real communities.
“Together we can be the champions for our communities.”
If all the personal information is entered correctly, the bonus miles will be posted to the qualifying member’s SkyMiles account within three weeks of the donation.
More ways to give back
United Way is one of many organizations Delta
members can donate miles to. It is also one of the carrier’s longest partnerships. As of 2022, Delta employees and customers have donated over 15 million miles to United Way, with the miles going to help the various connected charities, including providing more than 250 flights to survivors of human trafficking.
According to the airline, there is a 100 % participation rate in giving to United Way among Delta’s senior leaders, with Delta people raising $1.8 million for the organization in 2023.
The airline even painted one of its
Boeing 767
aircraft (N139DL) with the United Way logo to raise awareness of the organization. United Way is far from the only organization where frequent flyers can donate miles. The SkyMiles program partners with charities ranging from the Red Cross to Make-a-Wish, UNICEF, Habitat for Humanity, and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Other US carriers have offered similar promotions to reward frequent flyers who want to use their points and miles for good. This month, American Airlines is giving away up to 500,000 AAdvantage miles for Stand Up To Cancer donations. At the same time, United Airlines has a similar partnership with the National Foundation for Cancer Research, offering MileagePlus members 10 miles per dollar donated.
