Finnair Increases Summer 2025 Frequencies To 4 US Destinations

The flag carrier of Finland will offer its largest-ever US schedule next summer in response to a marked increase in American travel to the Nordics. A oneworld alliance carrier, Finnair will boost its flights from Helsinki to Chicago O’Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, and Seattle-Tacoma, among other destinations.

Digging into Dallas

The airline is adding capacity on strategic routes next summer as it looks to deepen its ties with oneworld Alliance partners American and Alaska Airlines in the US market. Two-thirds of the airline’s North American destinations are set to receive extra flights. According to Finnair’s Chief Revenue Officer Christine Rovelli, the increases will help boost connectivity across the US.

“Increasing our capacity to the United States brings our customers excellent connectivity to North America and beyond.

“Customers can connect via Dallas and Chicago to our partner American Airlines’ extensive network in North and South America, while Seattle and Los Angeles offer a gateway to for example other parts of the West Coast and Hawaii, through our partners American Airlines and Alaska Airlines.”

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

One of the airports getting more flights next summer is Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The frequency boost was revealed earlier this summer and will help improve connectivity for home carrier American Airlines. In an exclusive interview with Simple Flying earlier this year, Antti Tolvanen, Senior Vice President of Network & Revenue Management, explained how the Texas airport’s position as a hub for North America among oneworld carriers for easy one-stop connections to Helsinki and beyond:

“When you look at the customers who are traveling with us from Dallas, they come from all over the North America and all over the United States.”

Flights have been in high demand since the link was introduced in 2022. Next summer, Finnair will offer up to 11 weekly flights from Texas, with double daily flights on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. This is an 83% increase from the six weekly flights the carrier operated this summer.

Los Angeles International Airport

Beginning on March 30th, 2025, passengers can hop off the plane at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with their dreams and a cardigan up to five times per week. The announcement comes as the route celebrates the fifth anniversary of flights from Hollywood to Helsinki and buildings on the three weekly flights operated in the summer of 2024.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport

Finnair will be breezing into the ‘Windy City’ with two extra flights next summer. In honor of a decade of flights to Illinois next year, the carrier confirmed it is increasing its Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) service to daily, up from the five times per week operation currently offered.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport

Anyone hoping to be sleepless in Seattle will have some additional opportunities. Finnair’s Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to Helsinki route will receive two extra weekly flights during peak periods beginning next summer. This brings connections to the Emerald City up to five times weekly in 2025. Javier Roig Sanchez, Finnair General Manager North America, highlighted the carrier’s growth in the US:

“While this summer comes to an end, here at Finnair we are ready to take-off with a bumper schedule for summer 2025.

“That’s why we are excited to have announced our largest ever schedule from the US to Helsinki, with extra flights from Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and Seattle, in response to the rising demand for Nordic travel.

“From our first long-haul flight to New York back in 1969, we’ve come a long way in the US, and know these extra transatlantic flights will prove popular with those travelling for business, leisure, or visiting family and friends.”

The move will help support connecting traffic from oneworld Alliance partner Alaska Airlines, which operates a significant hub at the Washington State airport.

Jumping into Japan

Finnair will also become the European airline to Japan next summer when counted by the number of flights; the airline is increasing flights from Helsinki to Osaka daily as the city gears up to host World Expo 2025, an increase from the five weekly flights offered this summer.

The airline’s newest long-haul route, launched this summer, will also benefit from extra flights. The service to Nagoya Airport(NGO) is doubling from twice per week this summer to four times weekly.

Elsewhere, in Japan, the airline will operate daily flights to both Tokyo-Haneda (HND) and Tokyo-Narita (NRT) airports next summer, resulting in 25 weekly flights between Europe and Japan.

Flights to China are also set to receive a boost. The Nordic carrier’s Helsinki to Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) service receives an additional rotation, bringing the total up to four times weekly. Anssi Partanen, Finnair’s Market Director for Europe, noted how meaningful the connections are to its passengers:

“Summer 2025 is already set to be a sensational one here at Finnair, thanks to our boosted long-haul schedule to Asia and the US.

“Our customers have always valued our seamless connections to Asia, so to be expanding our presence in both China and Japan – including on our newest route to Nagoya – shows the continued trust in Finnair as a leading long-haul carrier. And with the World Expo set to be held in Japan next year, we know these extra flights will prove more popular than ever.

“But we are equally excited to be expanding across the Atlantic, boasting our largest ever schedule between Helsinki and the US, which shows our commitment to connecting customers between Europe, Asia and the US.”

All the flights have been timed to allow easy connections to the carrier’s Northern European network, which includes over 25 Nordic and four Baltic destinations.
