WestJet will resume service between Halifax and Paris for the first time since 2022 – the Canadian carrier will operate four weekly flights next summer season and will also begin flying to Dublin and Edinburgh a month earlier than last year, with flights scheduled to launch in mid-May.

Announcing its schedule for summer 2025, the airline will be bringing back its direct service between Halifax Stanfield International (YHZ) and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG). Starting on May 16th until October 25th, the airline will fly four times a week with its Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet, which can seat up to 174 passengers – according to Cirium data, this will amount to 5,916 monthly seats both ways.

Andy Gibbons, Vice-President of External Affairs at WestJet, said,

“Today’s announcement in Halifax underscores our ongoing commitment to Nova Scotia and our incredible airport partners as we building the city’s leisure network with seamless seasonal connectivity to and from Europe.”

WestJet last flew to Paris during the Summer 2022 season but decided to scrap the route. However, demand for flights to the ‘City of Love’ has remained firm on the airline’s seasonal Calgary (YYC) route, with the airline deciding to make it a year-round daily service. It will also be launching a third route to Paris next summer with a weekly 737 MAX service from St John’s (YYT) starting May 18th.

Also part of its transatlantic summer schedule from Halifax next year is Dublin (DUB), Edinburgh (EDI), and London Gatwick (LGW). While the first two will launch in mid-May, its London service will begin even sooner at the end of April. Passengers on these routes will have the option to upgrade to WestJet’s Premium front cabin, which offer extra space and other premium perks.

Codeshare opportunities with Air France

WestJet recently bolstered its codeshare partnership with Air France, adding to its network of onward connections. In September, the Canadian airline announced it had added another 31 cities across 11 European countries to its codeshare agreement with Air France, enabling WestJet passengers to seamlessly connect to more than 50 destinations across Europe.

Patrick Sullivan, President & CEO of Halifax Chamber of Commerce, commented,

“Increasing flights to and from Nova Scotia is good for businesses in Halifax and across the province. Local businesses are excited about WestJet adding additional capacity to bring visitors to Halifax from European capitals and from Western Canada to spend their tourism dollars in our province.”

A busy summer ahead

WestJet’s summer schedule reveals the addition of 11 new routes and 10% more seat capacity year-on-year. At its peak, the carrier will fly over 3,000 weekly flights thanks to significant growth at several Canadian airports.
