Sunbolt, a leader in solar-powered workstations and charging stations, has had recent installations of its technology at UC Riverside, Southern New Hampshire University, and Montgomery County Public Schools. It just makes sense to have solar power with canopies with outdoor tables on campuses. Sunlight is converted to electricity where the students are so they can use it to operate their electronic devices and charge them.

Vanessa Branco, Sunbolt’s Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, answered some questions about Sunbolt’s technology and installations.

How did SunBolt begin?

Sunbolt began after its founders recognized how vulnerable communities were to losing power, especially after major events like Hurricane Sandy. Watching people rely on car batteries just to charge their phones sparked an idea: create an off-grid solar charging table that could deliver reliable power anywhere. That first concept, called The ConnecTable, eventually evolved into what’s now known as Sunbolt.

What does SunBolt make and who are its customers?

Sunbolt builds outdoor solar-powered workstations and charging stations. Examples include solar tables, shaded seating areas, and standalone charging hubs with USB, USB-C, wireless, and standard outlets.

Their products are popular with colleges and universities, corporate and business campuses, parks, and other public spaces that want to offer outdoor areas where people can work, study, or relax while staying powered up. All of this uses clean energy.

What is a solar power workstation and how many has SunBolt installed?

A solar power workstation is a self-contained outdoor table or seating area equipped with solar panels, a built-in battery bank, and multiple charging ports for laptops and mobile devices. It runs completely off-grid, making it perfect for outdoor spaces that don’t have access to traditional electrical connections.

Sunbolt workstations have been installed in 33 U.S. states and in countries such as Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada, and Togo, though the exact number of installations isn’t listed.

What is the average solar power capacity of a solar workstation?

It depends on the model, but most Sunbolt workstations generate between 700 watts and 1.4 kilowatts of solar power. Each one includes battery storage large enough to keep devices powered for several days, even without direct sunlight.

Installation usually takes one to two hours with a two-person team and can be done by a facilities crew or local contractor. The units are often self-ballasted and require only a flat surface with good sunlight with no complicated site work needed.
