In a significant step toward strengthening India’s maritime capabilities, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB) during the 30th edition of the Partnership Summit 2025 held in Visakhapatnam on November 14.

The strategic MoU aims to promote long-term collaboration in maritime infrastructure development, shipbuilding, and associated sectors, aligning with the national vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

Under the agreement, GRSE and APMB will work jointly to leverage their respective expertise to enhance the maritime potential of the region, including the development of a Greenfield shipyard. The partnership will focus on creating state-of-the-art shipbuilding facilities, modernizing existing maritime infrastructure, and exploring joint ventures for the construction of advanced vessels catering to both defence and commercial markets.

GRSE, one of India’s leading defence shipyards, brings decades of shipbuilding experience, while APMB contributes its maritime administration capabilities and strategic access to Andhra Pradesh’s coastline. Together, the entities aim to boost indigenous manufacturing, enhance coastal infrastructure, and drive economic development through maritime sector growth.

This collaboration is expected to create opportunities for innovation, technology transfer, and skill development, ultimately contributing to India’s self-reliance in the shipbuilding and maritime domains.
