There has been a steady stream of good news about new EV chargers being installed in the US. Two of my favorites are the city of San Diego installing over 750, and 32 fast chargers coming to Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky. A little more recently, it was dozens of new chargers coming to Wisconsin.

Now there is this story about more than 80 Level 2 and fast chargers arriving in Boise, Idaho. The Boise chargers will mainly be installed at parks and libraries. Between 80 and 100 of the new chargers will be Level 2 and 2 to 8 will be fast chargers. The expectation is that the new Boise chargers will be installed by early 2027.

Boise currently has about 314 EV chargers, according to Plugshare. The state of Idaho may have less than 9,000 fully electric vehicles.

The fact that new chargers are being installed is great news because there are still places where there aren’t enough public EV chargers. Having more of them available means less range anxiety for EV drivers and it encourages EV adoption.

Federal grant money has been getting to some states for new EV chargers despite interference from the Trump Administration. “This grant moved full steam ahead since it was awarded to the city, despite the multitude of changes to the federal government put in place by President Donald Trump in his second term.”

One myth about electric vehicles is that they all cost too much, when in fact, there are multiple EVs that cost less than the average price of a new car in the US, which is now about $50,000. There are several new EV models that cost far less than this.

Another myth is that all EVs need 900 miles of range or some other exaggerated number. In fact, there are already electric vehicles that have enough range. Public EV charging infrastructure is expanding, so less range will be necessary than some people think.
