Dhami Prioritises Karligad Rehabilitation; Administration Launches Massive Relief and Protection Drive – Indian PSU
Rehabilitation and relief work in the disaster-hit Karligad area has become a top priority for Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, with the district administration working on a war footing to ensure the safety and rehabilitation of affected families.
Acting on the Chief Minister’s directions, the district administration under the leadership of Dr. Ashish Chauhan has significantly ramped up machinery, manpower and other resources in the disaster-affected Karligad and Sahastradhara areas. The administration has set an ambitious target of completing debris removal, river channelisation and rehabilitation work within the next 15 days.
The protection and rehabilitation of families affected by the disaster remains among the Chief Minister’s highest priorities. Following his directives, various departments are working in close coordination to expedite relief, rehabilitation and conservation efforts within the stipulated timeframe.
The administration is maintaining continuous surveillance of the affected areas and taking all necessary measures to provide a safe environment for residents while reducing the risk of similar disasters in the future.
As part of the ongoing monitoring process, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, accompanied by the Cabinet Minister and the local MLA from the Mussoorie Assembly constituency, recently conducted an on-site inspection of Karligad to assess the progress of rehabilitation and debris clearance operations. During the visit, officials were instructed to further accelerate the pace of work and ensure that all required arrangements are completed on schedule.
Reviewing the large volume of debris accumulated following the disaster, the Cabinet Minister directed officials to clear the entire debris load from Karligad within 15 days. He also emphasised the need for scientific channelisation of debris to prevent future damage and instructed departments to swiftly prepare proposals for the safe and permanent rehabilitation of affected families.
District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan stressed that families residing in vulnerable locations must be shifted to safer areas on a priority basis to minimise the risk of loss of life and property during future calamities. He directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination to ensure timely completion of rehabilitation efforts.
To accelerate debris clearance operations, the Mining Department has deployed two additional Poclain and JCB machines, while the number of dumpers operating in the area has been increased to seven. Simultaneously, the Irrigation Department has deployed two additional Poclain machines to undertake river channelisation work, significantly enhancing debris disposal and river flow management activities.
The district administration had already deployed heavy machinery, including Poclain excavators, JCBs and dumpers, in the disaster-affected Karligad and Sahastradhara regions. Following the Chief Minister’s directive to augment resources, additional machinery and manpower have now been pressed into service, enabling debris removal and river channelisation works to proceed at an accelerated pace.
Officials said the intensified operations are aimed not only at immediate relief and rehabilitation but also at creating long-term safeguards against future disaster risks in the region.
