BHEL Powers India’s Space Ambitions, Plays Key Role in ISRO Missions Including Chandrayaan-3 – Indian PSU

As India celebrates a transformative decade of development under the theme #12SaalVishwasKeVikasKeJanKalyanKe, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has highlighted its significant contribution to the nation’s space programme through its long-standing partnership with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

BHEL has emerged as a trusted technology partner in several landmark Indian space missions, including the historic Chandrayaan-3. The PSU engineering giant supplied advanced space-grade lithium-ion batteries that powered both the Vikram Lander and the Propulsion Module of Chandrayaan-3.
In addition to energy storage systems, BHEL also manufactured critical titanium-alloy propellant tank components and bi-metallic adaptors used in the launch vehicle, underscoring its technological capabilities in supporting complex space missions.
The company’s contribution to India’s space ecosystem extends beyond lunar exploration. BHEL’s solar panels and space-grade batteries continue to power numerous ISRO satellites, playing a vital role in ensuring reliable performance of space assets orbiting the Earth.
Through advanced manufacturing, indigenous innovation, and strategic collaboration with ISRO, BHEL continues to contribute to India’s expanding space capabilities and the national vision of achieving greater technological self-reliance in critical sectors.
