SAIL-IIM Jammu Leadership Development Programme Concludes, Empowering Future Leaders – Indian PSU

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu successfully concluded the five-day on-campus Phase-III of the Mid-Career Leadership Development Programme (LDP) for Young Managers (Batch-II), specially designed for executives of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).

The valedictory ceremony was held at the Vedanta MDP Centre, IIM Jammu, marking the successful completion of an intensive leadership learning journey by 35 high-potential young managers drawn from diverse functional domains across SAIL.

The programme is a key component of a year-long leadership development initiative jointly conceptualized by IIM Jammu and SAIL’s Management Training Institute (MTI), Ranchi. It aims to nurture future-ready leaders capable of driving innovation, organizational excellence, and transformation across one of India’s leading Maharatna Public Sector Enterprises.

The valedictory session was presided over by Dr. Atanu Mukherjee, General Manager (I/c) (HR & L&D), SAIL, who joined virtually, along with Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu. The event was also attended by Programme Directors Prof. P.P. Maheshwari and Dr. Malaya Ranjan Mohapatra through online mode.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Atanu Mukherjee appreciated IIM Jammu for delivering a highly enriching and impactful learning experience. He emphasized that the participants represent SAIL’s promising talent pool and will play a crucial role in shaping the organization’s future.

He encouraged the young managers to share their learnings across teams, undertake impactful projects, and contribute towards building a culture of excellence and innovation within SAIL. He further described the programme as a transformational journey that will continue through mentoring, project work, and practical organizational application in the coming months.

Congratulating the participants, Prof. Jabir Ali highlighted the importance of continuous learning, adaptability, and the ability to translate knowledge into organizational impact in today’s rapidly evolving business environment. He commended the participants for their enthusiasm, active engagement, and commitment throughout the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Malaya Ranjan Mohapatra reflected on the programme’s learning outcomes and praised the participants for their active involvement in classroom discussions, case studies, simulations, and experiential learning exercises. He noted that the curriculum was carefully designed to combine academic rigor with practical industry relevance, helping participants strengthen their managerial, financial, analytical, and leadership competencies.

The participants expressed appreciation for IIM Jammu’s enriching academic environment, distinguished faculty, contemporary curriculum, peer-learning opportunities, and world-class infrastructure. They acknowledged that the programme broadened their perspectives and significantly enhanced their leadership capabilities.

The multi-phase training programme covered a wide range of contemporary management themes, including leadership effectiveness, strategic thinking, decision-making, finance for managers, organizational behaviour, innovation, business communication, and managerial excellence. The sessions were delivered through lectures, case discussions, simulations, experiential exercises, and interactive engagements with faculty members.

The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates and a formal vote of thanks delivered by Prof. P.P. Maheshwari. The successful completion of the programme further strengthens the strategic partnership between IIM Jammu and SAIL and underscores their shared commitment to developing visionary leaders capable of navigating complex business challenges and driving sustainable organizational growth.
