BCCL Explores Textile Industry Collaboration with Aditya Birla Group for Employment Generation in Coal Belt – Indian PSU
Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) held detailed discussions with senior officials of Aditya Birla Group in Bengaluru on Friday. The meeting explored the possibility of establishing textile and garment manufacturing units to generate employment and promote skill development in coal-bearing regions.
The high-level BCCL delegation, led by CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal, met senior executives of Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Limited to discuss potential industrial collaborations aimed at enhancing employment prospects for rehabilitated and project-affected families (PAFs). The discussions focused on industry-based skill development, workforce training, livelihood promotion and the creation of sustainable employment ecosystems.

During the meeting, both sides deliberated on the development of a proposed industrial zone, designing industry-oriented training programmes and equipping local youth with skills aligned to industry requirements. The deliberations also covered potential collaborative models for strengthening workforce capabilities, expanding skill development initiatives and fostering long-term livelihood opportunities.
The participants explored employment-oriented industrial models suited to local conditions and available resources, while examining ways to improve youth employability and encourage inclusive economic development. Emphasis was laid on developing sustainable livelihood avenues through industry-institution partnerships that can support the socio-economic transformation of coal mining regions.
The BCCL delegation comprised CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal, Director (Technical/Operations) Sanjay Kumar Singh, General Manager (JMP) Rajiv Chopra, along with other senior officials and experts. Senior representatives from the Aditya Birla Group also participated in the discussions.
Earlier, during the first phase of the study visit, the BCCL team toured a textile manufacturing facility of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited, where they undertook a detailed assessment of the production system, industrial operations, skill development framework and employment generation model. Insights gained from the visit formed the basis for the extensive discussions on future collaboration and possible action plans.
BCCL officials said that the outcomes and recommendations emerging from the study tour will be carefully evaluated before finalising a roadmap for employment-oriented industrial activities and industry-linked skill development initiatives for rehabilitated and project-affected families.
