The Kansas City Symphony (KCS) announced today that it has extended the contract of its principal conductor, Matthias Pintscher, by five years, thereby extending his tenure as music director through the 2033–34 season.

Pintscher, 55, has held this position since the 2024–25 season. He previously served as music director of the Ensemble Intercontemporain for ten years. He is currently in his seventh season as artistic partner of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and has previously held various positions, including nine seasons as Artist-in-Association of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, principal conductor of the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, music director of the 2020 Ojai Festival, and Season Creative Chair of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich.

Pintscher is also a renowned composer.
