CMA CGM India launches weekly export block train service linking North India to Mundra Port
MUMBAI : CMA CGM India has strengthened its multimodal logistics network with the launch of a new weekly export block train service connecting ICD Garhi Harsaru in the National Capital Region (NCR) to Mundra Port, enhancing rail-based cargo movement and improving export connectivity for customers across North India.
The newly inaugurated dedicated service will operate every Thursday, providing exporters with fixed weekly departures and a carrying capacity of up to 180 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) per train. The scheduled service is designed to offer reliable transit, faster cargo evacuation and seamless access to international shipping networks.
The export block train will provide direct connectivity to several of CMA CGM’s major international shipping services, including INDAMEX, EPIC, MEDEX and MIDAS, enabling efficient movement of Indian export cargo to key global markets across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas.
With the launch of this service, CMA CGM India now operates eight weekly export block train services linking inland container depots (ICDs) across North India with Mundra Port, one of India’s largest container gateways. The expanded rail network is expected to improve supply chain reliability, reduce transit times and provide exporters with greater scheduling flexibility.
The inauguration was carried out in association with Gateway Distriparks Limited (GDL), highlighting the continued collaboration between shipping lines and inland logistics operators to strengthen India’s multimodal freight ecosystem and promote seamless port connectivity.
The initiative aligns with the growing emphasis on rail-led logistics and integrated supply chain solutions, supporting the Government of India’s vision of reducing logistics costs, increasing the modal share of rail transport and promoting environmentally sustainable cargo movement. Compared to road transport, block train services offer lower carbon emissions, improved operational efficiency and greater predictability for time-sensitive export shipments.
CMA CGM India said the new service reinforces its commitment to providing customers with efficient, reliable and environmentally responsible logistics solutions while enhancing connectivity between India’s manufacturing hubs and global trade routes.
