SECL Wins Green Transition Leadership Award, Becomes First Coal India Arm to Cross 50 MT Coal Production – Indian PSU

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has been honoured with the Green Transition Leadership Award for its outstanding contribution to sustainable mining, environmental conservation and green initiatives. The recognition highlights the company’s continued focus on responsible mining practices, land reclamation, scientific mine closure and the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies.

The award acknowledges SECL’s sustained efforts towards environmental stewardship, promotion of green energy and implementation of sustainable mining practices across its operational areas.

Adding to the achievement, SECL has also become the first subsidiary of Coal India Limited to cross the 50 Million Tonnes (MT) coal production milestone in the current financial year 2026-27. The company has registered a 9.5% growth in coal production compared with the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

SECL’s flagship mining projects in Korba played a major role in achieving the production milestone. Dipka Project produced 11.8 Million Tonnes, followed by Gevra Project with 11.7 Million Tonnes and Kusmunda Project with 9.7 Million Tonnes. CIC Coalfields contributed 8.8 Million Tonnes, Raigarh Area produced 5.9 Million Tonnes, while Korba Area added 2.1 Million Tonnes, collectively driving the company’s strong operational performance.

Commenting on the achievement, SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Harish Duhan said the recognition reflects the company’s commitment to balancing sustainable development with energy security. He noted that SECL remains focused on responsible and environment-friendly mining while meeting the country’s growing energy needs through safe, efficient and technology-driven operations.

SECL continues to strengthen India’s energy security by adopting advanced mining technologies, improving operational efficiency and promoting sustainable mining practices. Alongside achieving higher production, the company remains committed to environmental conservation and responsible resource development, setting new benchmarks for sustainable growth.
