Hon’ble Prime Minister dedicates POWERGRID’s two transmission projects and lays foundation stone for one project in Andhra Pradesh
03 August 2026, Visakhapatnam: Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, laid the foundation stone for one transmission project and dedicated two significant transmission projects of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, marking another major milestone in India’s clean energy transition.
On this occasion, Sh. S. Abdul Nazeer, Hon’ble Governor of Andhra Pradesh; Sh. Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Hon’ble Governor of Goa; Sh. N. Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh; Sh. K. Pawan Kalyan, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh; Sh. Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Hon’ble Union Minister of Civil Aviation; Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications; Sh. Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Steel; and Sh. Nara Lokesh, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Human Resource Development and RTG, Government of Andhra Pradesh, were present.
The Hon’ble Prime Minister dedicated two key transmission projects implemented by POWERGRID. These include the transmission system for Kurnool wind energy zone / solar energy zone (Andhra Pradesh) – part-A & part-B, developed at an investment of approximately ₹3,547 crore, and the transmission system for solar energy zone in Ananthpuram (2,500 MW) and Kurnool (1,000 MW), developed at an investment of approximately ₹823 crore. These projects have been developed to facilitate the evacuation of renewable energy generated in the Kurnool and Ananthpuram renewable energy zones and its seamless transfer to beneficiaries across the National Grid.
The Hon’ble Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the transmission system for Integration of Kurnool-IV renewable energy zone (REZ) – phase-I (4.5 GW), to be developed at an investment of approximately ₹5,550 crore. The project will strengthen the transmission network for integrating an additional 4.5 GW of renewable energy from the Kurnool renewable energy zone into the National Grid.
The commissioning of the two transmission projects and the foundation stone laying of the Kurnool-IV REZ transmission system represent another significant step towards strengthening India’s green energy infrastructure. These transmission systems will facilitate the transfer of renewable energy across the country and make a substantial contribution towards achieving India’s target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based installed capacity by 2030, thereby accelerating the nation’s clean energy transition.
As on 30th June 2026, POWERGRID has commissioned and is operating 291 substations, 1,86,595 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 6,34,516 MVA of transformation capacity. With the adoption of advanced technologies, enhanced automation and digital solutions, POWERGRID has consistently maintained over 99.80% transmission system availability
