BCCL’s Unabated Campaign Continues Against Illegal Mining, Coal Theft and Illegal Transportation – Indian PSU
Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has intensified its ongoing campaign against illegal mining, coal theft, illegal coal storage and unauthorised transportation, with area domination, raids, intensive searches, drone surveillance and special vehicle-checking operations conducted across sensitive areas of the company.
The campaign is aimed at strengthening the implementation of the Government of India’s ‘Zero Coal Leakage Tolerance Policy’ and protecting national coal assets. BCCL carried out the operations in coordination with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the local administration.
During the latest campaign, raids and intensive searches were conducted at 18 locations. BCCL teams also monitored sensitive areas, suspected illegal excavation sites, escape routes and coal transportation corridors, with legal action being initiated wherever required.
At Govindpur, with logistical support from BCCL, two escape routes associated with Oriental Mines and another escape route near Hired Patch Deco Mines were closed.
In the West Modidih area of AKWMC in Katras, around three illegal mining mouths were identified. Action is underway to fill and close these illegal openings.
At Gopa Ground behind Bansjoda Siding in Sijua, around 50 sacks of powdered coal were seized during the operation.
An escape route was also identified near Khaira Mines in the PB Area, and steps are being taken to close it. At Barari Basti in Lodna, a closed rat hole and sacks filled with coal were found, following which necessary action is underway.
A search and raid operation was also conducted along the escape route from Sudhamdih Basti to ASP Mines and adjoining areas. No illegal coal storage was found during the operation.
161 Coal-Laden Vehicles Inspected
As part of the drive against illegal coal transportation, BCCL conducted a special vehicle inspection campaign at major checkpoints, transportation routes and weighbridge areas.
A total of 161 coal-laden vehicles were inspected, of which 136 vehicles were verified through the m-Parivahan application. According to BCCL, the documents and transportation details of all inspected vehicles were found satisfactory. No vehicle was found involved in suspicious activity or any documentary discrepancy.
Drone Surveillance and Intelligence-Based Operations Continue
BCCL said that drone surveillance, area domination, intensive patrolling, deployment of Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and Special Reaction Teams (SRTs), intelligence-based operations and special vehicle checks are continuing across mining and transportation areas.
BCCL management is maintaining continuous coordination with CISF and the local administration to close identified illegal outlets and escape routes and implement additional security measures wherever necessary.
The company said all operations were conducted peacefully, systematically and lawfully, with the necessary coordination and cooperation of BCCL management. The situation in the affected areas remains normal and under control.
BCCL reiterated its commitment to protecting national assets and enforcing its Zero Coal Leakage Tolerance Policy. The company said such campaigns will continue regularly and intensively to curb illegal mining, coal theft, illegal coal storage and unauthorised coal transportation.

BCCL has also urged people to provide information regarding coal theft, illegal mining, illegal transportation, illegal coal storage or any other suspicious activity.
