BCCL, SAIL Sign MoU to Develop 4 MTPA Coking Coal Capacity in West Bengal – Indian PSU
Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the joint development and operation of SAIL’s Indikattha Ramnagar coal block and BCCL’s East of Damagoria (Kalyaneswari) coal block in West Bengal.
The two blocks have a combined peak rated capacity of 4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), with extractable reserves estimated at around 79 million tonnes in Phase I.
Under the proposed integrated mining arrangement, mining in the Kalyaneswari block will be accompanied by overburden dumping in the Ramnagar block, with the arrangement reversed in Phase II.
The MoU is aimed at integrated utilisation of coal resources and increasing domestic coking coal production, strengthening the supply of a critical raw material for the Indian steel industry.
The initiative is also in line with the Government’s push to boost domestic coking coal production and reduce India’s dependence on imported coking coal.
