The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), Delhi-Noida, successfully organised a walkathon on Sunday to mark ISCCM Day and the first National Critical Care Day, under the theme ‘Care at Community Doorstep’.

The initiative aimed to raise public awareness about critical care, the importance of taking the right steps during medical emergencies, timely treatment and access to healthcare facilities. The event highlighted the message that critical care is not confined to intensive care units (ICUs), but begins with awareness, preparedness and timely action at the community level.

Dr Mahesh Sharma, Member of Parliament and former Union Minister, Government of India, attended the event as the distinguished guest.

The ISCCM – Walk for Life commenced at Chilla Sports Complex and concluded at Gate No. 4 of Noida Stadium, Sector 21A, Noida. Approximately 250–300 doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals participated enthusiastically in the walkathon, demonstrating their collective commitment to strengthening public awareness about critical care and emergency medical response.

Addressing the participating doctors and healthcare professionals at the concluding ceremony, Dr Mahesh Sharma emphasised the importance of timely medical intervention in treating serious illnesses and underscored the critical role played by specialised critical care services in saving lives.

He also stressed the need to ensure that healthcare facilities are accessible to the wider population and appreciated the medical community’s efforts to promote health awareness and improve the availability of quality medical services.

Dr Sharma expressed his appreciation for the leadership and support of Dr Akhil Taneja and Dr Ashutosh Bhardwaj in organising the programme. He also commended the dedication and enthusiasm of the doctors, nursing staff, healthcare professionals, volunteers and society members whose collective efforts contributed to the successful conduct of the event.

The walkathon served as a platform to reinforce the importance of community participation in emergency preparedness and healthcare awareness. By taking critical care beyond hospital walls and bringing its message directly to the public, the initiative sought to encourage people to recognise medical emergencies, respond appropriately and seek professional medical assistance without delay.

The programme underscored the broader objective of making critical care awareness an integral part of community health, reinforcing the principle that timely action and informed decisions can make a crucial difference in saving lives.
