Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), a Navratna Defence PSU under the Ministry of Defence, has delivered Amini, the fifth of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) being built for the Indian Navy.

The warship was formally accepted by Rear Admiral Gautam Marwaha, VSM, CSO (Tech), HQENC, on Thursday, November 5, 2026.

With this delivery, GRSE has built 119 warships, of which 81 have been delivered to the Indian Navy, marking another significant milestone in India’s indigenous warship-building programme.

Strengthening India’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities

Designed specifically for operations in coastal waters, Amini is equipped to undertake sub-surface surveillance, search and attack missions, and coordinated anti-submarine warfare operations in conjunction with aircraft.

The warship features an advanced Combat Management System, lightweight torpedoes and anti-submarine warfare rockets. These systems enable it to detect, track and engage underwater threats, strengthening the Indian Navy’s ability to protect India’s maritime interests and coastal waters.

Measuring approximately 77.6 metres in length, Amini is powered by marine diesel engines coupled with waterjets, providing enhanced agility and manoeuvrability.

Its shallow draught of approximately 2.7 metres makes it particularly suitable for littoral operations, allowing the vessel to navigate shallow coastal waters and undertake missions involving the detection and neutralisation of underwater threats.

88% indigenous content

In line with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, Amini reflects GRSE’s commitment to indigenous defence manufacturing.

The ASW-SWC vessels incorporate approximately 88% indigenous content. They are also equipped with a 30mm Naval Surface Gun manufactured by GRSE, highlighting the shipyard’s growing capabilities in developing and integrating indigenous defence technologies.

GRSE’s landmark warship-building achievements

The delivery of Amini follows another major achievement by GRSE on March 30, 2026, when the shipyard delivered three frontline naval platforms — Dunagiri, Sanshodhak and Agray — to the Indian Navy on the same day.

This unprecedented achievement demonstrated GRSE’s ability to execute multiple complex shipbuilding projects simultaneously, backed by its infrastructure, production capabilities and technical expertise.

The latest delivery further reinforces the shipyard’s track record in executing critical naval projects.

49 vessels under construction

GRSE currently has 13 frontline naval platforms under construction. These include:

  • One Project 17A Advanced Stealth Frigate.
  • Three Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts.
  • Four Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels.
  • Five Next Generation Corvettes.

Besides these frontline naval platforms, GRSE is constructing another 36 vessels, including 13 export platforms.

The substantial order book underscores GRSE’s strategic role in India’s maritime security architecture, indigenous defence manufacturing and the expansion of the country’s shipbuilding capabilities.
