Coal India Chairman B. Sairam Extends Diwali Greetings to Employees, Calls for Higher Production and Stronger Commitment – Indian PSU
Coal India Limited Chairman B. Sairam has extended Diwali greetings to all executives, employees and their families, urging the entire Coal India workforce to renew its commitment towards meeting the country’s growing energy requirements through higher production, improved performance and operational excellence.
In his Diwali message addressed to the Coal India family, Sairam acknowledged the extraordinary contribution of coal warriors who continue to ensure uninterrupted coal supplies to power plants, often working round the clock and under extremely challenging conditions.
He said the millions of lamps illuminating homes across the country during Diwali also symbolise the dedication and commitment of Coal India’s workforce, whose efforts keep the nation’s power plants running.
Highlighting the challenges facing the coal sector, the Chairman said the global situation and the unusual climatic conditions witnessed this year had created unprecedented challenges for coal-based power generation. Electricity demand has continued to rise, while coal stocks at power plants have declined.
Despite these challenges, Coal India recorded an increase of 11% in production compared with the corresponding period last year.
He said the company had successfully maintained coal supplies to power plants despite adverse circumstances and was now focusing on maximising production and replenishing coal stocks to ensure adequate availability ahead of the next financial year.
October production touches 21.69 lakh tonnes daily average
Sairam highlighted Coal India’s production performance during October, stating that the company achieved an average daily production of 21.69 lakh tonnes during the month.
Despite cyclonic rainfall towards the end of October, Coal India increased its daily production to 28.52 lakh tonnes, demonstrating its operational capabilities and resilience.
He said the achievement reflected the company’s ability to overcome challenges and establish new benchmarks. Expressing confidence in the workforce, he asserted that Coal India’s capacity to achieve its targets remained unquestionable.
Focus on restoring coal stocks at power plants
The Chairman said that November had brought two favourable developments. First, electricity demand had witnessed a natural decline compared with the summer months, although it continued to remain higher than last year’s levels. Second, production growth had begun to gather momentum.
However, he cautioned that these favourable circumstances also brought fresh responsibilities.
Coal India must ensure that coal stocks at power plants reach satisfactory levels before the beginning of the next financial year so that adequate reserves are available to meet the requirements of the first half of the coming year.
For this, the company would have to further accelerate production and dispatches.
Calls for collective responsibility and higher performance
Sairam reminded employees that the period following festivals marks a crucial phase for Coal India, as the company enters the final stretch of the financial year and works towards achieving its annual targets.
He said the organisation’s priorities must remain focused on higher production and protecting the company’s reputation.
Emphasising continuity and collective responsibility, he called upon every Coal India employee to renew their commitment and ensure that the organisation continues its tradition of performance and achievement.
Quoting an inspiring message, he urged employees:
“Never think that you can ever fail. The greatest enemy of human beings is a discouraged mind. Abandon despair and remain strong and determined.”
Chairman acknowledges contribution of coal warriors and their families
Sairam also expressed gratitude to the families of Coal India employees, acknowledging the sacrifices they make while their family members work in challenging conditions and remain away from home for long periods.
He said the strength and motivation provided by families enable coal warriors to perform their duties with dedication.
Extending Diwali greetings to all executives, employees and their families, the Chairman called upon the entire Coal India fraternity to remain united, energetic and committed to the national mission of ensuring energy security.
He concluded his message with an inspiring call: “Awaken, arise, do not lose heart. Become a source of inspiration yourself.”
