Southwest Airlines flight in California was forced to return to its airport of departure after an engine light came on. According to officials, the aircraft touched down safely this morning, and no injuries were reported.
What happened to Flight 2395?
The Southwest Airlines flight departed Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) this morning, bound for Southern California. The Boeing 737 was originally heading to Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) with an estimated flight time of 70 minutes.

According to flight tracking service Flightradar24, the aircraft departed on time at 08:15. The plane then traveled south from the San Francisco Bay area, rising to an altitude of just over 21,000 feet. Around 08:29 minutes into the flight, the aircraft can be seen leveling out before banking to the left and beginning its turn back up towards the bay area.

When reached for comment by Simple Flying, a spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA) confirmed the agency was actively investigating the incident, which appears to be due to a potential engine issue:
“Southwest Airlines Flight 2395 returned safely to Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport in California around 8:50 a.m. local time on Tuesday, Nov. 12, after the crew reported an engine issue.”

The plane safely touched down in San Jose around half an hour after departure and taxied back to the terminal under its own power.
What happened to the passengers and plane?
When reached for comment today for this piece, Southwest Airlines confirmed that no injuries were reported among the 67 passengers and five crew members onboard the flight. According to the airline, the affected passengers were able to be accommodated on the next flight to Burbank.

Southwest Airlines offers six daily flights from San Jose to Hollywood Burbank Airport. In addition to the early morning flight, which was diverted today, there are departures from SJC at 09:40, 11:50, 14:35, 16:20, and 18:35. The aircraft was then taken in for maintenance, according to an airline spokesperson who was authorized to provide additional context into the aircraft’s status:
“Southwest Airlines Flight 2395 returned safely to San Jose Mineta International Airport around 8:45 a.m. local time Tuesday after the Crew received an engine maintenance indication after departure.
“The aircraft has been removed from service pending an assessment by Maintenance.”

The aircraft in question is a Boeing 737-700 registered N915WN. According to data from ch-aviation, the airline ordered the plane in 2006. It took its first flight two years later and was delivered the same month, March 2008. It has been flying with Southwest ever since and is not scheduled to be retired until 2031.
