CJ Darcl Logistics calls for Execution-Driven Reforms to cut costs and emissions ahead of Union Budget 2026–27
NEW DELHI: As the Union Budget 2026–27 approaches, leading logistics player CJ Darcl Logistics has urged the government to prioritise execution-led reforms aimed at reducing logistics costs while supporting India’s manufacturing growth, infrastructure expansion, and climate commitments.
Sharing the company’s pre-Budget expectations, Mr. Nikhil Agarwal, President, CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd., emphasised the need to strengthen India’s logistics ecosystem through faster multimodal integration with a clear focus on measurable carbon-reduction outcomes.
According to the company, increasing the share of rail and coastal transport, supported by efficient first- and last-mile connectivity, can significantly lower logistics costs while delivering substantial reductions in carbon emissions. Greater coordination across transport modes, CJ Darcl noted, would also enhance supply chain efficiency and resilience.
Highlighting the importance of the human element in logistics, Mr. Agarwal underscored the urgent need to invest in the driver ecosystem, describing drivers as the backbone of India’s logistics infrastructure. He called for targeted budgetary support for driver training, upskilling, safety initiatives, and high-quality rest infrastructure, linked to performance and efficiency-based incentives, to address reliability challenges and the growing shortage of skilled drivers.
CJ Darcl Logistics also recommended the introduction of outcome-based incentives linked to verifiable reductions in carbon emissions from logistics operations. Encouraging the adoption of alternate fuels and electric mobility, alongside investments in charging and refuelling infrastructure, would help fleet operators transition to sustainable practices without impacting economic viability, the company said.
“A policy framework that rewards lower emissions, promotes multimodal transport, and strengthens human capital will position logistics as a key enabler of India’s competitive, resilient, and low-carbon growth,” Mr. Agarwal stated.
