New Syncraft Powerplant Being Built In Partnership With Procarbic

In Zwickau, Germany, construction is starting on a new Syncraft Climate Positive Powerplant that will turn regional forest waste into renewable energy and green carbon. The project is led by BiokohlenWerk Zwickau and is coordinated by Procarbic Management, part of the Prolignis Group. The technology at the heart of the project comes from Austrian cleantech company Syncraft. 

The Zwickau project uses two Syncraft CW1800x2-1000 units with a combined electrical capacity of 2 MW. 

Key elements of the Syncraft power plant:

• Feedstock: regional forest waste (residues) 
• Core technology: Syncraft’s climate positive reactor and energy system
• Outputs:
  – Renewable electricity (2 MW installed electrical capacity)
  – Base load process heat
  – Around 6,000 tonnes per year of CDR stored in “green carbon”

The site will also include:

• An automated crane system that feeds the Syncraft modules and a separate on-site biomass boiler
• A Syncraft drying system with box dryers to condition the wood chips before they enter the process
• A flexible green-carbon handling system, where the material is stored dry in a silo and can be loaded out at different moisture levels depending on customer needs.

In short: this is a dedicated industrial-scale Syncraft powerplant as a highly robust contribution to the energy infrastructure. The company has also recently inaugurated a powerplant at the famous 400-year-old Stanglwirt resort.

As the world needs gigatonne carbon removal capacity, a fleet of 1,500 Syncraft Powerplants would deliver 10 million tonnes of carbon removal per year next to gigawatts of clean energy.
