Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) plans to reorganize its warehouse automation business in Europe and the U.S. in order to unify all warehouse automation-related organizations under the Toyota Automated Logistics (TAL) unit, the company said.
The new organizational structure is aimed to begin operations in April, 2026, and will focus on the growth of Toyota’s warehouse automation business through faster, group-wide decision-making. Overall, the company’s warehouse automation units provide automated systems for warehousing, storage, retrieval (picking), and other logistics processes at warehouses, fulfillment centers, and factories.
Affected units of the reorganization would include three divisions: its Dutch subsidiary Vanderlande Industries Holding B.V., which handles large-scale automation systems for airports, parcel handling, and warehouse automation; its German subsidiary viastore Intralogistics Holding GmbH, which engages in small- to medium-scale warehouse automation; and its U.S. subsidiary Bastian Solutions, LLC. Toyota acquired Vanderlande in 2017, acquired Bastian also in 2017, and acquired viastore in 2022.
Since it absorbed those units, TICO says it has been working on strengthening collaboration between the organizations and creating synergies through phased organizational restructuring. Toward that end, the company may take three steps:
- In Europe, Toyota Industries is considering merging the warehouse automation businesses of Vanderlande and viastore.
- In the United States, TICO may integrate Bastian and Vanderlande’s U.S. warehouse automation businesses
- Meanwhile, Vanderlande will continue to specialize in airport and parcel operations, providing even higher value-added solutions and services.
