Unveiling of Newly Constructed Statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda by BCCL on His 150th Birth Anniversary – Indian PSU
A grand and dignified programme was organised by Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) at the CISF Ground, Nehru Complex, Coal Nagar, to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Dharti Aba Bhagwan Birsa Munda and mark Tribal Pride Day, on Saturday.

On this historic occasion, CMD, BCCL, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, unveiled the newly constructed statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and paid floral tribute. He was joined by Director (HR) M.K. Ramaiya, Independent Director Dr. Arun Oraon, CVO Aman Raj, and other dignitaries, who also garlanded the statue and offered their respects.

Active Participation by Trade Unions and Tribal Community

Prominent representatives from various trade unions — Mr. Umesh Kumar Singh, Mr. Bhavani Bandhopadhyay, Mr. R.K. Tiwari, Mr. Murari Tanti, Mr. K.K. Singh, Mr. Rajkumar Kanojia, and Mr. S.S. Prasad — participated in the programme. Members of tribal communities, the SC/ST Coordination Council, and the BCCL Women’s Welfare Committee were also actively involved.
CMD Highlights Birsa Munda’s Enduring Legacy
Extending his wishes on the Silver Jubilee of Jharkhand Foundation Day and Tribal Pride Day, CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal said: “Dharti Aba Bhagwan Birsa Munda is an immortal charioteer of Indian society who, with his courage, bravery and leadership, not only guided the tribal community but also gave new direction to the struggle for collective rights, social justice and self-respect.”
He added that Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s life teaches that courage, determination and integrity always lead to positive societal transformation. His legacy, he said, is the pride of the entire nation.
Cultural Performances Add to the Grandeur
The programme began with a ceremonial welcome of the Chief Guest, Manoj Kumar Agarwal. Following tradition, Director (HR) Murali Krishna Ramaiah welcomed him with a robe, and various labour organisations also honoured the CMD.
Post the unveiling ceremony, artists from the tribal community of Lakhanpur, West Tundi, performed a vibrant cultural presentation, including a captivating Bihu dance. Artists dressed in the traditional attire of Birsa Munda and his sister, expressing deep reverence for Dharti Aba, added a deeply emotional and cultural touch to the concluding session.
