Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks will remain open on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in a special arrangement aimed at ensuring uninterrupted banking services ahead of the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30.

The decision has been taken in view of the proposed strike by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and the preceding weekend holidays on September 26 and 27. The move is intended to prevent customers from facing an extended disruption in banking services.

The Reserve Bank of India has approved the opening of all bank branches, offices, ATM-link branches and Currency Chests on September 27, allowing banking operations to continue normally on the Sunday.

The arrangement is particularly significant as the proposed strike follows the weekend holidays, which could otherwise have resulted in a prolonged interruption of regular banking services.

The Department said that the measure has been taken to protect the convenience and genuine banking requirements of customers. Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks have accordingly been directed to maintain normal operations on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Government and bank managements have appealed to the banking unions to defer the proposed three-day strike and have taken measures to ensure that essential banking services remain available to the public.

With September 26 being a Saturday holiday for banks and the proposed strike scheduled for September 28-30, the opening of bank branches on September 27 is aimed at providing customers with an additional opportunity to complete their banking transactions before the strike.
