Air Canada
is set to significantly expand its Airbus A220-300
operations across its North American network during the Summer 2025 season, the carrier announced on Tuesday. The Montreal-based carrier’s latest schedule update, released on January 5, 2025, reveals an ambitious deployment of the fuel-efficient aircraft across multiple city pairs.
This strategic move will see the Canadian carrier deploy its cutting-edge aircraft on a select group of routes, primarily to destinations in the United States. The expansion is part of Air Canada’s ongoing efforts to optimize its network and offer more efficient, sustainable travel options across North America.

These US destinations are on the list
For the first time, the Airbus A220-300 will provide direct service on several high-demand routes between Canada and the United States. Key destinations included in this summer’s network expansion include Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
, Los Angeles International Airport
, Philadelphia International Airport
, and Charlotte Douglas International Airport
. The aircraft will be flown on these routes between June and September 2025, catering to the peak travel season.
From its Toronto Pearson International Airport
hub, the airline will operate daily A220 flights to multiple US destinations, including Charlotte, Philadelphia, Raleigh–Durham International Airport
, St. Louis and Washington Dulles International Airport
, with service running from May 1 to October 25, 2025, for most routes.

Vancouver International Airport
will see enhanced A220 operations with twice-daily service to Denver International Airport
effective May 1, along with a temporary daily non-stop service to Los Angeles during April 2025. The Vancouver – Denver route, unlike other routes, does not have an end date for A220 service. Meanwhile, Montréal–Trudeau International Airport
‘s A220 network will include daily flights to Atlanta and Philadelphia from June 1 to July 13, plus limited-time service to Los Angeles with 3-4 weekly flights in April.

Domestic A220 service expanding
The domestic Canadian network will also benefit from increased A220 deployment. Calgary International Airport
will regain A220 service on two routes that previously saw the aircraft type until October 2023: daily flights to both Ottawa and Vancouver from May through October 2025. The Montreal hub will extend its reach to Western Canada with seasonal A220 service to Kelowna (weekly) and victoria international airport
(five times weekly) during the peak summer period.
- Calgary – Ottawa: 1 daily flight from September 2 to October 25, 2025. (This route was last served by the A220 in October 2023.)
- Calgary – Vancouver: 1 daily flight from May 1 to October 25, 2025. (Previously operated by the A220 until October 2023.)
- Montreal – Kelowna: 1 weekly flight from June 7 to August 30, 2025. (This route was last operated by the A220 in April 2023.)
- Montreal – Victoria: 5 weekly flights from June 6 to September 1, 2025.

A young fleet
Air Canada is further expanding its fleet with the addition of five more Airbus A220-300s, bringing its total firm orders for the aircraft to 65. The latest order was announced in December 2024, marking the fifth anniversary of the airline’s first A220 delivery in December 2019, Airbus
said. This follows an initial 2016 order for 45 A220-300s and a reorder in 2022 for an additional 15 aircraft.
According to Air Canada, the A220-300 features a two-class cabin configuration with 137 seats, including 12 in Business Class with a 2×2 layout and 125 in Economy with a 3×2 layout.
