The annual

American Airlines

and Stand Up To Cancer fundraiser is back in full swing. This time, the oneworld Alliance carrier and charity have teamed up with actor and activist Rosario Dawson for a heartwarming promotional video informing people they can earn 25 frequent flyer miles or more per dollar donated to the cause.

A time to give

This is the eighth consecutive year that American Airlines has run a special promotion for Stand Up To Cancer with its

AAdvantage

loyalty program. Between now and September 30th, program members will receive 25 AAdvantage bonus miles for every dollar they donate of $25 or more to Stand Up To Cancer using this link.

Throughout their partnership (which offers 10 miles per dollar donated throughout the year), American has raised more than $20 million for innovative and life-saving cancer research. American Airlines even has a special Airbus A321 adorned in a unique livery featuring the names of those who donated to the campaign in 2019. Ron DeFeo, American’s Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, noted just how important this partnership remains:

“Cancer affects countless lives, including many of our own team members and their loved ones. Our eight-year partnership with Stand Up To Cancer has become an important part of our airline. It truly allows us to live out our purpose of caring for people on life’s journey while supporting Stand Up’s vital mission of advancing life-saving research.”

Bonus miles do not count toward status qualification but can be used for award tickets and other mileage redemption opportunities, including concerts, hotel stays, and car rentals.

A win-win solution for maximum miles.

This year, American Airlines is offering its credit cardholders the opportunity to earn double miles on donations. Cardholders can donate through a dedicated portal on the Stand Up To Cancer website. Each member will earn 50 AAdvantage miles on donations between $25 and $10,000 until the end of September or when the fundraising goal of $3 million is met.

A Guide To Your American Airlines Credit Card Options

Some American Airlines credit cards have no annual charges and come with a sign-up bonus of thousands of travel miles.

Both donation methods offer a way to significantly boost your AAdvantage miles balance while supporting a worthwhile cause. Buying American Airlines miles is possible, but there is a limit of 150,000 miles, which, with the current 35% discount, equals $3,668.44. Donating the same amount using a cobranded credit card would earn 183,422 miles.

The fundraiser also offers the opportunity to acquire significantly more miles at once than otherwise possible. For AAdvantage members without a credit card, donating $10,000 will earn them 250,000 miles. Those with a card can earn half a million, well above the standard limit for purchasing miles.

Stand Up To Cancer helps by bringing together the best and the brightest in the cancer community to support new therapies move quickly from the laboratory to the patient. The charity also works to continually create awareness and educate the public on cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Speaking on the release of the new public service video, Rosario Dawson, a SU2C ambassador, noted how the disease affects those all around us:

“I am one of the millions of people who have a loved one that’s been touched by cancer. This year, 2 million people will be diagnosed — that’s one person every 15 seconds. I’m hoping that when people watch this PSA, they will be encouraged to learn more, join us and rise to the challenge.

“With the help of donors like you, we are making incredible strides. Together, we could see the end of cancer as we know it.”

As a unique way to highlight this year’s campaign and encourage passengers to support research, American Airlines is partnering with sustainable fashion brand Raven + Lily on a limited-edition specialty amenity kit design. The new SU2C specialty kits will take flight later this year. First and business class kits will feature the SU2C yellow, orange, and red colors, along with Raven + Lily’s recognizable zig-zag trim. The premium economy kit will also come in the SU2C yellow, and all the kits will include new skincare brands and offerings.
