Highly placed sources have told www.indianpsu.com that the Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) has recommended the name of Director Marketing – HPCL, Amit Garg, as the new Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). The file is awaiting signature at the PMO, sources added.
Earlier this year, in June, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) had conducted interviews for the same post but declared that none of the candidates met the required standards. Consequently, the PESB suggested that the ministry adopt an alternative process to identify a suitable candidate, leading to the formation of the Search-cum-Selection Committee.
The selection process for the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) took place on November 13, 2024, under the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB). The position has been vacant since August 31, 2024, following the retirement of Push Kumar Joshi. Currently, Rajneesh Narang, HPCL’s Director (Finance), has been serving as the acting CMD since September 1, 2024.
Apart from Amit Garg, there were several other high profile candidates also in the fray for this top post. They include –
