Apple Inc. is set to unveil its foray into generative artificial intelligence later this year. CEO Tim Cook, speaking at the company’s annual shareholder meeting, promised insights into the tech giant’s AI endeavors, highlighting their “incredible breakthrough potential.”
While Apple has been more measured in its AI deployment compared to rivals Microsoft and Google, Cook emphasized the current integral role of AI in Apple’s offerings. He teased that upcoming explicit AI features will bolster productivity and problem-solving for users.
Cook proudly stated that Apple’s silicon-powered Macs are leading the AI machine market, hinting at the latent capabilities of their devices.
A significant minority of shareholders, led by the AFL-CIO, pushed for greater transparency in Apple’s AI use and ethical considerations. Although the proposal did not pass, it garnered a notable 37.5% of votes, signaling a growing concern over AI governance.
As Apple positions itself to reveal its AI strategy, the tech community is on the lookout for how the Cupertino-based company will balance innovation with ethical responsibility. This news comes as other major corporations face similar scrutiny regarding AI ethics and transparency.
