Oneworld carrier Alaska Airlines is launching a new Global Getaways promotion with significant discounts on award redemptions. The program will offer flight discounts of more than 50% to select destinations that rotate quarterly. The first theme has been revealed to be Global Getaways: Exotic, sunny beach escapes.
Where can you go?
The first destinations were chosen to highlight the carrier’s new award chard, which reduced the number of points needed to book flights operated by Alaska Airlines’ partners. In addition to fellow oneworld alliance members, the carrier has agreements that allow passengers to earn and spend miles on 11 airlines, including Singapore Airlines, Aer Lingus, Icelandair, and LATAM.

Flights must be booked by April 30th and flown from September through November to be eligible for the promotion. How to book flights.
Naturally, the seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Travelers can access the Global Gateways page here or log into their Mileage Plan accounts to begin booking. Simple Flying’s research shows good redemption availability across all the advertised routes at the promotional price. Flight searches for departures from multiple US cities showed seats in various classes and through different airline partners throughout the entire booking period.

How To Spend Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Miles
Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan uses dynamic award pricing but still offers some good value partner awards.
The promotion highlights the recent changes to the Mileage Plan program, which reduced the beginning rate for redemptions on partner airlines to 4,500 miles (down from 7,500) for short one-way trips. Overall, more than 60% of nonstop economy and business class redemptions now start at a lower price. New sale destinations are to be announced every quarter, according to Brett Catlin, Vice President of Loyalty, Alliances, and Sales at Alaska Airlines:
“That once-in-a-lifetime trip is even closer with our quarterly Global Getaways promotion for discounted award travel to fabulous, far-flung locales”
“We’re continuing to invest in making Mileage Plan the most rewarding loyalty program with the industry’s most valuable currency.”
The recent loyalty program updates also allow members to earn Mileage Plan MVP elite status faster, as customers earn at least 100% of the miles flown as elite qualifying miles when flying with Alaska and partners (excluding Saver and basic economy tickets).
