Troublingly, a backlash regarding this appointment has quickly gained momentum—let’s call it “Klaustrophobia.” Unlike Mr. Dudamel’s early days in L.A., when nary an unkind word was spoken, the vitriol from various quarters directed at Mr. Mäkelä is disconcerting.
