BCCL CMD Manoj Kumar Agrawal Reviews Mining and Washery Operations in CV Area, Pushes for Higher Production and Efficiency – Indian PSU
BCCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Manoj Kumar Agrawal visited the Chanch Victoria (CV) Area and conducted a comprehensive review of mining and washery operations. He was accompanied by the General Manager (Safety), General Manager (Washery), General Manager (Washery Construction), General Manager (CV Area) Sanjay Kumar Singh, along with senior officers and employees from BCCL Headquarters and regional offices.
The visit commenced with a tree plantation programme at the regional office premises, reinforcing BCCL’s commitment to environmental protection, sustainable development, and a clean and green environment.
The CMD subsequently inspected the 1.6 MTPA Dahibari NLW Coal Washery, where he also participated in a plantation drive within the washery premises. During interactions with the BOMO operator and washery officials, he reviewed operational performance and expressed concern over the current feed and yield levels. He directed officials to increase the washery feed from the present 1,500 tonnes per day to 3,000 tonnes per day at the earliest and to make necessary preparations for achieving the full designed feed capacity of 4,400 tonnes per day from October onward.
During the inspection, the CMD reviewed various operational sections of the washery, assessed machine performance, and instructed officials to take necessary measures to enhance feeding capacity, strengthen quality control mechanisms, and improve overall operational efficiency.
The CMD then visited the Basantimata Dahibari departmental patch, where he reviewed production and safety-related issues. He assessed the availability and utilization of Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMMs) and directed officials to improve machine availability. Emphasizing optimum utilization of available resources, he stressed the importance of increasing production and dispatch while ensuring strict adherence to safety standards and operational efficiency.

The visit also included a review of the Panchayat Bhawan relocation project in coordination with the regional estate department. Thereafter, the CMD inspected the Sabanpur Patch and Borira Patch-A (Extension) of Damagoria Colliery. While examining the final working face of Borira Patch-A (Extension), he observed significant potential for deploying two to three additional machines. Such deployment, he noted, could facilitate uninterrupted extraction of approximately 1.4 million tonnes of coal and 8 million cubic metres of overburden. He instructed the concerned agency to ensure immediate deployment of the required machinery.
The CMD further reviewed land acquisition and other land-related issues concerning the Sabanpur Patch and Borira Patch-A (Extension). He directed officials to expedite land acquisition processes, remove encroachments, and ensure the systematic rehabilitation and relocation of affected areas.
During the inspection, a review meeting was held with regional officials, project authorities, and representatives of associated agencies. Discussions focused on production, dispatch, land acquisition, machinery availability, and other critical issues related to the Dahibari Departmental Opencast Project (DBOCP), Damagoria Colliery, and Dahibari Washery.
Following his return to the regional office, the CMD addressed operators, supervisors, and officers, outlining strategies to enhance production and increase washery feed. He encouraged officers to spend more time in the field and strengthen monitoring systems to improve operational performance. Highlighting the importance of safety, teamwork, transparency, discipline, and accountability, he urged all employees to work with dedication, integrity, and a positive approach. He also informed attendees that the tendering process for the Kalyaneshwari Project is expected to commence within the next six months.
Present on the occasion were the Project Officers of DBOCP, Damagoria Colliery, and Dahibari Washery; ACB representatives Ravi Nair, Bhagwan Prasad, Mantosh Bal, and Rajiv Singh; Vishnu Transport Company representative Bittu Khanna; RA Mining Private Limited representative Raja Pillai; along with managers, officers, and officials from DBOCP, Damagoria Colliery, and the Regional Office.
The CMD’s visit marked an important step toward enhancing coal production, improving washery performance, optimizing resource utilization, resolving land-related challenges, strengthening the safety culture, and promoting sustainable and responsible mining practices across the region.
