Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured major domestic contracts from Adani Power Limited for setting up four thermal power projects across India, with a combined generation capacity of 6,400 MW.

Under the agreements, BHEL will supply critical power equipment, including boilers, turbines and generators (BTG), along with associated auxiliaries and agreed services for all four projects. Each project will have an installed capacity of 2×800 MW.

The 6,400 MW order marks a significant addition to BHEL’s domestic order book and reinforces Adani Power’s confidence in the engineering major’s manufacturing strength and project execution capabilities.

BHEL Strengthens Its Dominance in India’s Power Sector

BHEL continues to play a pivotal role in India’s power generation infrastructure. The company has supplied and deployed more than 214 GW of power-generating equipment worldwide.

At the end of FY 2025-26, BHEL maintained a strong market position in India’s conventional power generation segment:

  • 54% share in utility-scale thermal power capacity.
  • 60% share in nuclear power (secondary side).
  • 43% share in hydro power capacity.
  • 53% share in India’s overall utility-scale conventional power generation capacity.

Major Boost to India’s Thermal Power Expansion

The latest contracts from Adani Power underline BHEL’s continuing relevance in India’s expanding thermal power sector. The orders also reflect the growing demand for large-scale power generation equipment as the country strengthens its electricity infrastructure to meet rising energy requirements.

The projects are expected to further reinforce BHEL’s manufacturing capabilities, technological leadership and position as a key contributor to India’s energy security.

The contracts also align with the government’s broader focus on strengthening domestic manufacturing, infrastructure development and self-reliance in the power sector.
