Maharatna PSU Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has staged a strong financial turnaround in the first quarter of FY2026-27, reporting a consolidated net profit of ₹376.71 crore against a net loss of ₹455.50 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year, driven by robust growth in revenue and improved operational performance.

The engineering major’s revenue from operations increased 40.3% year-on-year to ₹7,697.72 crore, compared with ₹5,486.91 crore in the April-June quarter of FY26. Total income rose to ₹7,911.86 crore from ₹5,658.07 crore a year ago.

Power Business Leads Growth

BHEL’s recovery was led by a sharp improvement in its core power business. Revenue from the power segment climbed 51.8% year-on-year to ₹5,919.50 crore, reflecting faster execution of projects and healthy demand for thermal power equipment.

The company also benefited from improved operating margins as revenue growth outpaced the rise in expenses, resulting in a return to profitability during the quarter.

Strong Order Book Supports Outlook

BHEL continues to maintain one of the strongest order books in the capital goods sector, providing long-term revenue visibility. The company has been expanding beyond conventional thermal power into sectors such as nuclear power, defence, rail transportation, renewable energy, and industrial manufacturing, while strengthening its export presence.
