CCL Reviews Mine Safety Measures at 37th Corporate-Level Tripartite Safety Committee Meeting – Indian PSU
Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) successfully conducted its 37th Corporate-Level Tripartite Safety Committee Meeting on July 28, 2026, in Ranchi, bringing together senior officials from the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), CCL management, and members of the CCL Safety Board to review and strengthen safety practices across the company’s mining operations.
The meeting was chaired by CCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Nilendu Kumar Singh, who reaffirmed the company’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the highest standards of mine safety, occupational health, and worker welfare.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by R.T. Mandekar, Deputy Director General (DDG), Central Zone, along with senior DGMS officials, CCL Directors, officers, and members of the Safety Board. DGMS officials and Safety Board members were later felicitated with shawls and bouquets in recognition of their contribution to mine safety.
During the meeting, participants carried out a comprehensive review of CCL’s existing safety standards, statutory compliance, and workplace safety mechanisms. The committee also assessed the progress made in implementing recommendations from the previous Tripartite Safety Committee meeting and discussed fresh initiatives aimed at further improving safety across CCL’s mining operations.
Members of the Safety Board shared valuable insights based on their experiences and highlighted key challenges related to mine safety. Their practical suggestions were appreciated by the chair and other participants.
Addressing the gathering, S.S. Prasad, DDG, South Eastern Zone (SEZ), stressed the importance of strengthening infrastructure and safety arrangements for women employed in mines. He also recommended upgrading facilities required for the annual Preliminary Medical Examination (PME).
R.T. Mandekar, DDG, Central Zone, emphasized the need for immediate construction of separate washrooms for women employees and proposed the establishment of a modern Vocational Training Centre. He also recommended creating a dedicated Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Task Force under the provisions of the New Labour Code to enhance workplace safety and ensure its timely implementation. Drawing on his experience in other mining organizations, he shared several practical recommendations that received wide appreciation.
In his concluding remarks, CMD Nilendu Kumar Singh thanked the DGMS officials, particularly the DDGs of the Central and South Eastern Zones, for their constructive suggestions in the interest of mine workers. He assured that CCL would implement the recommendations in a phased and time-bound manner.
Reiterating that worker safety remains CCL’s foremost priority, Singh called upon all stakeholders to work in close coordination to create a safer work environment while achieving the company’s coal production targets in the national interest.
