State-owned Coal India Limited (CIL) continued to drive India’s coal sector growth by posting a strong performance in July 2026, recording an 8.42% year-on-year increase in coal production and a 17.43% rise in coal dispatch, significantly contributing to the country’s energy security and industrial demand.
According to provisional data released by the Ministry of Coal, Coal India produced 63.67 million tonnes (MT) of coal in July 2026, compared to the corresponding period last year, demonstrating the company’s continued operational efficiency and enhanced mining output.
On the dispatch front, CIL supplied 63.67 MT of coal during July 2026, registering an impressive 17.43% growth year-on-year, reflecting improved logistics, stronger demand from power and industrial consumers, and efficient supply chain management.
The company’s cumulative coal dispatch during the first four months of FY 2026-27 also maintained healthy momentum, recording a 6.81% growth over the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
Coal India remained the single largest contributor to India’s overall coal production, accounting for the bulk of the country’s 69.75 MT coal output in July 2026. The nation’s total coal production increased 7.51% year-on-year, while overall coal dispatch surged 17.34% to 86.33 MT, highlighting the crucial role played by CIL in meeting the country’s growing energy requirements.
The Ministry of Coal attributed the encouraging performance to sustained efforts aimed at increasing domestic coal production, improving evacuation infrastructure, and ensuring uninterrupted coal supplies across key consuming sectors.
The cumulative coal production in the country up to July in FY 2026-27 reached 302.24 MT (Provisional), while cumulative coal dispatch touched 354.70 MT (Provisional), registering a 5.87% growth compared to the same period last year.
