Connecting Youth With The Old And Working With Passion Is Important To Succeed: UNICEF UP Chief Dr Zakari Adam – Indian PSU
Calling upon the young change makers to work with passion, the Uttar Pradesh Head of UNICEF, Dr Zakari Adam said that there is a necessity to connect old age people with the youth. While addressing the round table of young change makers and key stakeholders on enabling meaningful participation of adolescents and young people to ensure child rights and sustainable development at the UNICEF Lucknow office, Dr Adam stressed on building a connection between the people of different age groups. Recalling the 75 years journey of UNICEF, Dr Adam said that more than 400 staff members in India the organization have been working tirelessly in the field of education, health, human rights and other developmental sectors. He said that working with great passion UNICEF has addressed many issues in this country and succeeded.
The communication specialist at UNICEF, UP Office, Ms Nipurnh Gupta, said that the aim of this round table conference was to have a meaningful dialogue with those working with the children and not for them. She said that effort is to create a network of such people and organizations who have been working with children. In her presentation on meaningful participation, Nipurnh Gupta explained that adolescence is the golden opportunity for development. She said that participation does not mean raising voice only but about being informed and engaged with the issues that affect us. According to her, as per the convention on child rights (CRC), the emphasis has been laid on freedom of speech, participation in decisions as per age, maturity, and development of capabilities. Besides, it also says about the constitution of unions and association for children, providing them information that is beneficial and respect for the rights of others. Nipurnh Gupta said that the right of participation is the basic human right.
In the round table, the young change makers from various parts of the state, as well as from the organizations working the child shared their experience, journey, and motivation. The communication officer of UNICEF Vasit Malik and consultant Richa Srivastava conducted a quiz for the participants which had questions regarding child rights. Two short films on UNICEF’s 75-year journey and conversation of actress Priyanka Chopra with children were also shown during the conference. The young change makers present in the round table were of the opinion that there should be a co-ordination among the people and organisations working with children and in different fields. Nipurnh Gupta said that there is a greater need for advocacy.
Sharaf Abbas Khan, secretary Sharnam Seva Samiti thanked the young change makers from various organisations and districts who had come to attend the programme. He expressed gratitude towards Poshan Mitra from Shravasti Master Amar, Garima, and Rohit Pandey from Bharat Scouts & Guide for sharing their experience. The round table was attended by, Sameeksha, Akhilesh Shukla, Tanzeem Raza, Ishan, Anshul Bharti, Shivangi, Aliza, Sarvagya Asthana, Ayush Patel, Divya Malviya, Anjali Taj, Poonam, Ankit, Anayeka and others besides few social media influencers. .
