TUTICORIN : A remakable achievement for India’s maritime and logistics sector, Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal (DBGT) has achieved a record-breaking feat by successfully handling and delivering 168 Out of Gauge (OOG) TEUs in a single day on June 6, 2026, setting a new benchmark in specialized cargo operations at VOC Port, Tuticorin.
The landmark operation was carried out by M.V. Sprinter, with all 168 OOG containers discharged, handled, and delivered on the same day, demonstrating exceptional operational efficiency, meticulous planning, and seamless coordination among terminal personnel, shipping lines, transport operators, and port stakeholders.
This achievement surpasses the previous record of 126 OOG TEUs, which was handled at VOC Port on August 13, 2023, by M.V. Xin Tai Cang, marking a substantial increase in the volume of project and oversized cargo handled through the port.
The vessel operated on the route Qinzhou – Yangpu Xiaochantan Port – Tuticorin – Chennai – Guangzhou, further highlighting Tuticorin’s growing importance as a strategic gateway for international trade and project cargo movements between India and major Asian manufacturing hubs.
Out of Gauge cargo, which includes oversized machinery, industrial equipment, wind energy components, construction materials, and other project-related cargo that exceeds standard container dimensions, requires specialized handling expertise, advanced equipment, and stringent safety protocols. Successfully managing such a large volume within a single operational window underscores DBGT’s capability to handle complex logistics requirements and reinforces its position as a preferred gateway for project cargo in South India.
The record-setting performance reflects the terminal’s continued investments in infrastructure, technology-driven operations, and workforce training, enabling it to efficiently cater to the growing demand for specialized cargo handling services. The achievement also aligns with the broader vision of enhancing cargo throughput and strengthening the competitiveness of VOC Port as a key maritime hub on India’s eastern coastline.
DBGT credited the accomplishment to the unwavering commitment of its employees, customers, vessel operators, transport partners, customs authorities, and port officials, whose coordinated efforts ensured safe, smooth, and timely execution of the operation.
Industry observers note that the achievement further enhances Tuticorin Port’s reputation as a capable hub for handling high-volume OOG and project cargo, supporting sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure development, heavy engineering, manufacturing, and industrial expansion.
With this latest milestone, Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal continues to raise the bar in operational excellence and cargo handling efficiency, setting new standards for OOG container operations in the Indian port sector while reinforcing its role in facilitating global trade and supply chain connectivity.
