Etihad Has Carried 8.7 Million Passengers In 2024

Etihad Airways has posted its preliminary June 2024 traffic statistics revealing it flew 1.5 million monthly passengers. The carrier served around 8.7 million customers during the first half of 2024, representing almost a 40% year-on-year increase.

The Abu Dhabi-based airline carried 1.5 million passengers in June, a 34% increase year-on-year after serving 1.1 million customers in June 2023. Load factor was at 86% for both months, demonstrating the added capacity Etihad can now deliver having added over a dozen aircraft to its fleet in the past 12 months. Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, commented,

“In June, our passenger numbers surged by 34% from last year, demonstrating our continued growth momentum. Year to date, we have flown 8.7 million passengers, an increase of nearly 2.5 million, almost 40 per cent, compared to the previous year, and as of June 2024, our rolling 12-month passenger tally stands at 16.4 million.”

The airline launched to eight new destinations in June, with year-round routes to Al Qassim, Bali and Jaipur joined by seasonal services to Antalya, Malaga, Mykonos, Nice and Santorini.

As for its half-yearly figures, that makes it 8.7 million passengers served in the first six months of 2024, which is 38% higher year-on-year. The airline’s load factor has remained steady, averaging out at 85% during both periods. The carrier also posted a record Q1 profit in its latest financial results, achieving a 25% increase in revenue and lower operational unit costs.

Bigger fleet, bigger network

At this point last year, Etihad operated a total of 76 aircraft – this has risen to 92 aircraft, and the carrier covered 76 passenger destinations last month, ten more than it flew to in June 2023. The airline will add capacity to key routes this winter season, including its newly-launched service to Boston which will go to a double daily in October.

New additions include four Boeing 787 Dreamliners and three Airbus A321neo, with another three A321neos scheduled to join the airline soon – as Simple Flying reported, Etihad chose one of these A321neos to showcase a special livery. The airline will also start inducting its first A321LRs from next year and has additional widebody reinforcements with more 787 Dreamliners and A350-1000s on their way.
