GENEVA: The global logistics and freight forwarding community came together to celebrate a landmark occasion as FIATA — the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations — commemorated its 100th Anniversary on 31 May 2026.

Founded in Vienna, Austria, on 31 May 1926, FIATA has evolved into one of the world’s most influential logistics organisations, representing and connecting freight forwarders and logistics service providers across continents. Over the past century, the federation has played a pivotal role in shaping international trade, supporting economic growth, and strengthening global supply chains.

In a special centennial message, FIATA Centennial President Prof Dr Thomas Sim described the occasion as a celebration of “commitment, resilience, collaboration, and service to global trade and logistics.”

Highlighting the importance of the logistics industry in sustaining global commerce, Prof Sim noted that freight forwarders and logistics service providers have remained an indispensable pillar of the international supply chain ecosystem through periods of transformation, disruption, crisis, and innovation.

“For 100 years, freight forwarders and logistics service providers have played a vital role in enabling international commerce, supporting economic development, connecting markets, facilitating trade, and ensuring the continuous movement of goods that sustain industries, businesses, and societies worldwide,” he stated.

The centennial celebrations also recognised the collective contributions of FIATA’s Association Members, Individual Members, governments, regulators, international organisations, carriers, ports, terminals, technology partners, academic institutions, and other stakeholders who have supported the development of a more connected and resilient logistics landscape.

Reaffirming the federation’s long-term vision, FIATA stated that it remains committed to advancing trade facilitation, digital transformation, sustainability, professional excellence, innovation, and international cooperation. The organisation aims to continue strengthening the freight forwarding profession while supporting the evolving needs of international trade and supply chain management in the decades ahead.

Prof Sim emphasised that the centennial milestone is not only a reflection of FIATA’s proud legacy but also a renewed commitment towards shaping the future of global logistics with “responsibility, integrity, collaboration, and vision.”

Concluding his message, the FIATA President extended gratitude to members, partners, stakeholders, and the worldwide logistics fraternity for being part of the federation’s remarkable 100-year journey.

“Happy 100th Anniversary, FIATA. Together, we connect the world,” he said.

As the global logistics industry continues to navigate rapid technological advancements, geopolitical shifts, sustainability challenges, and evolving trade patterns, FIATA’s centenary stands as a powerful testament to the enduring importance of collaboration and innovation in keeping global commerce moving.
