GetJet Airlines Latvia Secures FAA Approval To Operate US Flights

ACMI and Charter operatory GetJet Airlines Latvia, received the Part 129 Operation Specification approval from the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This will allow the carrier to operate passenger flights to and from the USA as part of its ongoing global expansion.

Approval granted

The carrier announced just hours ago that it achieved a significant milestone in obtaining the Part 129 Operation Specification approval from the FAA. This will allow GetJet Airlines to commence its operation of passenger flights to the United States of America.

GetJet Airlines Latvia is a subsidiary of the larger GetJet Airlines group, which is based in the neighboring country of Lithuania.

The airline states that securing the approval took around five months. During this time, the FAA, the US Department of Transportation (DoT), and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) all performed various procedures and checks.

In a statement, the airline’s CEO, Rolands Ramins, commented,

“This milestone represents months of dedication and hard work from our team, and we’re proud to have met these standards. We are now looking forward to exploring business opportunities in the North American market and expanding our state-of-the-art services to the new regions.”

Given that the airline’s fleet consists of 12 narrowbody aircraft used for charter flights and ACMI services, it will be interesting to see how the airline plans to expand to the North American continent.

What is Part 129 approval?

The FAA states that Part 129 Operation Specification approval is required for any foreign carriers or operators who want to perform passenger and cargo operations to, from, or via the United States.

These approvals are the responsibility of the FAA and the International Field Offices (IFO), who can issue or amend foreign air carrier operation specifications (OpSpecs). Essentially, Part 129 governs the operating standards that are required to be met by foreign operators.

Part 129 comes under Title 49 of the United States Code (49 U.S.C.), which also includes Part 91, which plays a function similar to Part 129 but is required for private aircraft operations.

Headquartered in Vilnius, Lithuania, GetJet is an IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) registered airline offering charter and ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) services. The carrier also works with other international airlines and major tour operators in the region.

The carrier has 11 bases, connecting its passengers to over 170 airports across 50 countries. While the majority of its bases are in Europe, GetJet does maintain a base in Montreal, Canada, and two bases in North Africa – Casablanca, Morroco, and Tunis, Tunisia.

The carrier operates a fleet of 12 narrowbody aircraft consisting of five Boeing 737-800s, six Airbus A320-200s, and a single A321-200 aircraft, which joined the fleet in July 2023.

The Lithuanian ACMI carrier aims to maintain a diverse fleet.

The carrier has also previously operated widebody aircraft such as the Airbus A330, during which time it marked a milestone for becoming the first Lithuanian carrier to operate a long-haul flight to Australia in 2022.

Amid crew and aircraft shortages across the rapidly recovering industry, airlines increasingly turn to lessors and ACMI services such as GetJet Airlines. It is widely considered that the ACMI trend will shape the leasing sector and gain further popularity in coming years.
