Arunachal Pradesh has marked a historic milestone with the inauguration of its first commercial coal mining project at Namchik Namphuk in Changlang district. The event, held today, was graced by Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, and Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, signaling a new era in the state’s economic and industrial journey.

As part of the inauguration, the dignitaries performed a Bhumi Pujan and took part in a “100-tree plantation initiative” at the project site. The event also saw the formal handing over of the mining lease and the flagging off of tools and machinery by CPPL to the Namchik-Namphuk Central Coal Block, officially commencing mining operations.

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy emphasized the strategic importance of the project, describing it as “a symbol of new hope and a significant step toward energy security and regional development in the North East.” The Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine, with coal reserves of 1.5 crore tonnes, has now become operational.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu highlighted the mine’s potential to boost Arunachal Pradesh’s economy, generate employment opportunities, and attract future investments in the mining and industrial sectors. He expressed confidence that the initiative would empower local communities while contributing to sustainable regional growth.

The Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening India’s energy security and advancing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Beyond boosting local employment and industrial growth, the project positions Arunachal Pradesh as a key contributor to the nation’s energy and economic landscape.
