IndiGo has increased the fuel surcharge on its domestic and international flights with effect from October 6, 2026, pushing up the cost of air travel as aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices continue to rise.

The revised surcharge apples to new bookings made from 00:01 hours on October 6. The airline has introduced different charges based on the distance of domestic flights and the international region being served.

For domestic flights, IndiGo will levy a fuel surcharge of ₹375 on journeys up to 500 km, ₹600 for 501–1,000 km, ₹900 for 1,001–1,500 km, ₹1,150 for 1,501–2,000 km and ₹1,300 for flights exceeding 2,000 km.

The airline has also revised the fuel surcharge on international flights. The charges vary according to the destination, with the surcharge reaching ₹10,000 for flights to Europe. Flights covering Africa will attract a surcharge of ₹6,000, while services to Southeast Asia, the Gulf and Middle East, and North and East Asia will carry a surcharge of ₹5,500.

IndiGo said the increase has been necessitated by the sharp rise in ATF prices. The latest increase in aviation fuel prices has added considerable pressure to airline operating costs, with fuel accounting for a substantial share of an airline’s overall expenditure.

The latest move is the second revision of IndiGo’s fuel surcharge since its introduction in March 2026. The airline said it has attempted to keep the increase measured despite the substantial rise in fuel costs.

The higher surcharge comes at a time when air travel demand is expected to remain strong during the festive season. With IndiGo operating more than 2,200 flights a day, the revised charges are likely to affect a large number of passengers booking both domestic and international tickets.

The increase effectively means that passengers booking new IndiGo tickets will have to pay more, although the actual impact on the final fare will depend on the route, base fare, taxes and other applicable charges.
