Korean Air has purchased 20 Boeing 777X aircraft, becoming the newest airline to order the folding-wingtip twin-aisle aircraft from Boeing at the Farnborough International Airshow.

Additionally, the Korean airline purchased 30 Boeing 787-10 aircraft, split between 20 firm orders and ten options.

Flagship aircraft

According to Walter Cho, the chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Korean Air, the 777X will become Korean Air’s flagship aircraft. Cho added that the order marked a great partnership between the airline and the aircraft manufacturer, which has spanned over five decades.

Meanwhile, Stephanie Pope, the president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), reiterated that over the past 50 years, Boeing aircraft have played an integral part in Korean Air’s operations.

As such, Pope noted that the 777X and 787 will continue to support the carrier’s long-term goals, which include sustainability and growth plans.
