Gilles Feith, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Luxair, said that the 737 MAX 10 would help the airline position itself for the future, with the aircraft type supporting the airline’s growth and decarbonization.

Feith also mentioned the commonality between the 737 MAX models, with the CEO adding that this will result in significant operational savings for Luxair.

“In addition to reducing overall fuel use and emissions, the 737 MAXs will help create a 50 percent smaller noise footprint by reducing noise generated by takeoffs and landings at Luxembourg Airport.”

Previous 737 MAX orders

On two separate occasions, Luxair ordered 737 MAX aircraft, including the 737 MAX 7 and 737 MAX 8, in 2023.

The first order came in March 2023, when the Luxembourg-based carrier purchased four 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Luxair has already taken delivery of two 737 MAX 8 aircraft on lease, namely aircraft registered as LX-LBL and LX-LBK.

The carrier took delivery of the aircraft on July 1, 2023, and September 6, 2023, respectively, ch-aviation data showed.

Both aircraft were previously operated by Air Italy, an airline whose minority stake was owned by Qatar Airways. The Italian airline abruptly stopped operations in February 2020.

Nevertheless, during the Paris Air Show 2023, Luxair added another four 737 MAX 7, becoming the launch customer of the type in Europe.

At the time, Feith stated that the 737 MAX 7, seating 160 passengers, would offer flexibility across the airline’s network while also significantly cutting fuel consumption.
