When it comes to online shopping, truckers don’t have it as easy as the rest of us. The problem lies in the part of the ordering process where you select a delivery address: You can’t just click on one of your saved addresses for a package you’ll need to pick up while on the road.
A Texas company has come up with a solution to that problem. To help frequent travelers find a reliable place to receive personal packages while away from home, Austin-based LockerMap has mapped the location of thousands of publicly accessible, secure package lockers and other pickup locations. The map, which is free to use, can be found on the company’s website (lockermap.com).
Last month, the company announced the launch of two new services geared specifically to the needs of truckers: a new fleet pricing program and mobile apps that include trucker-friendly features. The apps, which are available in web-based, iOS, and Android versions, include route-based search tools that allow drivers to locate package pickup points along their planned route; a truck-stop filter that helps users find pickup locations at truck stops; and detailed site information, like locker type and operating hours.
LockerMap sells fleet subscriptions at $20 per driver per year, saying that price point makes it an affordable perk for trucking companies to provide to their drivers. Individual drivers can also obtain access to those premium features by subscribing to the company’s LockerMap Plus service.
